Award Season Highlights 2015: Golden Globes

Hi all! Sorry it's a little late but here is a small round up of my best dressed celebs at this years Golden Globes.

Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace

Once again, Kate is keeping it simple yet show-stoppingly gorgeous. This white Versace creation is a true masterpiece. She looks amazing but its not her that I'm drawn to. The dress is what sells it for me; the way the dress is constructed is very detailed yet structured and geometric. As you already know, I tend to hate white as a red carpet colour. I think it is a wedding dress colour and never really makes me excited - apart from at a wedding of course! However, I think the way this dress cuts out around her hips and waist revealing her gorgeous porcelain skin underneath is just stunning. The white gives it an interesting innocence and makes it more appropriate for the red carpet - especially for such an important event as the Golden Globes - and makes it all the more pristine and angelic. Her hair has been styled perfectly to show off the interest held in her garment and her make up matches the theme of heavenly, yet almost futuristic white.
Something that I really think works are her simple and bare accessories. Again, it brings more attention to the outfit but maintains that Hollywood glamour that is ever-present on the red carpet.
Overall, I think Kate looks like a galactic angel with serious style and a killer custom-made Versace to prove it. Keep going Kate, we salute you.

Julianne Moore in Givenchy

I love this dress sooooo much; to the moon and back! Julianne Moore always know how to surprise and excite people on the red carpet. Not that I have anything bad to say about her, but say take Meryl Streep. She is an unstoppable force that will forever be respected and will be winning awards till the day she dies so she doesn't always give what she wears 100% effort. However, there isn't a moment in her dress history wear Julianne hasn't taken time over her outfit, considering various aspects and details. This dress is perfect because it shows how confident she is. Out of all the younger actresses that went to the Globes, Julianne was by far one of my favourites. Fashion doesn't always have to be about being young, older women understand it just as good - and in Julianne's case, better! I love how the dress is quite a simple design. It draws more attention to its surface design. The gorgeous feathers at the bottom rising up into shimmering sequins are a classic Givenchy style. Now, although Givenchy AW'14 wasn't all that glamorous - more casual and chic than classic - this dress screams out Hollywood. I'm also impressed that Julianne went for a dress and designer that isn't usually used on the red carpet for events such as these. It shows that most of the time, having the courage to take a risk can really pay off!

Emma Stone in Lanvin

Breaking the rules is meant to be bad but Emma Stone makes bad look so good! A jumpsuit at the Golden Globes, you say? Oh, how common - NOT! This is by far one of my favourite looks this year because its just so ridiculously brilliant. I love how Emma Stone interprets style and just takes it to a whole other place. We need more people like this today. We need more fashion icons to experiment and go out there an wear something totally crazy because they will be the ones that are remembered. This outfit reminds me of Emma Watson, last year. She wore a gorgeous Dior dress which was backless with brown trousers underneath - now that was seen as daring. However, wearing a full-on jumpsuit to the Golden Globes? In my eyes, genius.  Not only is she confident and rocking it on the carpet, she also looks comfortable, at home in what she's wearing. And at a stressful event such as the Golden Globes, you want to feel as stress free as you can. I love it. What an amazing year she had last year, and to come in now with this sensational fashion statement in the very first month of this year? Very promising indeed. I love the bow at the back because it makes the dress just that little bit elegant. Classic style and form are essential on the red carpet and Emma has proved that you don't have to wear a huge gown shaped like a meringue in order to achieve that. Yes Emma! Bring on 2015...!

SophieSeamstress Fashion Awards 2014: One to Watch 2015

One to Watch 2015 is awarded to...

Kylie Jenner

At the mere age of 17, how can this fashionista have so much style? Kylie has been one of my favourite styles to copy this year. Her grunge meets punk style has had me hooked leading me to buy leather trousers, sleeveless tops and a LOT of black this year! She knows how to keep her fans happy by constantly uploading her styles and outfits to Instagram. Something that really interests me is that this Kardashian girl has been raised up with the success of a fashionable family. She has a lot of pressure to constantly dress on point and can i just say, she exceeds that expectation.
In 2014, she has shown that she can make decisions for herself and make fashion choices that might surprise some but excite others. Kylie's style definitely has me hooked so I really can't wait to see how she is going to develop this next year. We all know her as the youngest Kardashian, but after her sister has shown this year that she can make her own career (Kendall Jenner), I can't wait to see a lot more fashion and things to come from Kylie.
This year, we have really begun to see her grow and turn into a woman but now that she's to that killer style, I can't wait to see what she has got in store for us over the next few years.
My favourite look of the year has got to be her floor length black Alexandre Vaulthier dress that she wore to the VMAs. It was the epitome of sexy and stylish all in one neat little package, showing off those long legs but not to much. Cheeky, young and up my street!
She is a great contrast to her sisters in that she has developed an individual style that she sticks to religiously. She has got everything going for her right now, and next year is going to be bigger, bolder and brighter for Kylie. I just know these things!!

SophieSeamstress Fashion Awards 2014: Fashion Icon 2014

Fashion Icon 2014 is awarded to...

Emma Stone

For this award, there was no other person in contention. Not only does she have most amazing skin and petite frame, but the dress sense of an angel. Everything Emma wears looks absolutely breathtaking. This year, she has really shone like no other. To start with, she wears such a huge range of different designers, little known (e.g. Thakoon) to major designers such Prada and Versace. She displays such elegance in whatever she wears. At first, when Emma was just becoming well known, she didn't have much of a specific style because she was so young. But what has been amazing this year, has been watching her personality blossom through her clothes.
Something else that never fails to amaze me is her risk taking. For example, wearing an Atelier Versace luminescent gown to a premiere (top left). This was such a risk. The colour of her skin against the yellow, her hair colour etc. It could have gone badly but it didn't. It absolutely, 100% worked.
Emma has proved this year that you really should wear clothes that you are comfortable wearing. You can tell in every one of these photos that Emma feels comfortable in what she's wearing.
Possibly my favourite outfit from the whole of 2014 was her Thakoon two piece masterpiece which she wore to the Met Gala back in March (top right).  Again, I have no idea how, but it completely works. Two different shades of pink, two completely opposing fabric choices, her hair in a plait for crying out loud and yes she still looks absolutely stunning. It's hard to explain why I love it so much I just think she looks happy and confident wearing it, therefore so do we seeing her in it.
Her unique and elegant style has been giving the media what they want all year: a beautifully dressed girl that can take a good picture. Emma, you're my fashion hero.

SophieSeamstress Fashion Awards 2014: Red Carpet Queen 2014

Red Carpet Queen 2014 is awarded to...

Lily Collins

Gorgeous Lily. I have to say, this award was really hard to choose. There have been so many beautifully dressed celebs on the red carpet this year that made my short list: Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams, Lupita Nyong'o to name a few. However, every time I have seen a photo of Lily this year, on the red carpet, she has blown me away. Her sense of style and colouring are so great. She really knows how to dress for her size. She is the 'petitest' person but can wear clothing make her look taller, slimmer and more beautiful all in one. Something that really draws her to my attention, is her use of simple colouring. All her outfits have one colour that everything else has to match. Something I also love is the way she wears the dresses. She shows them off to their full potential. She is constantly turning around so that all angles of the dress are photographed, she poses differently to show the dress off in different ways. Let's face it, she gives the paps what they want! Minimal accessorising, simple hair, natural makeup; it all contributes to the look as a whole. More over anything, I think she is so beautiful. Her dresses always look beautiful because she chooses very carefully for her frame, as I've mentioned.
The reason for her being carpet queen isn't solely because of her outfits; she always looks happy to be there. She always looks genuinely blessed to be on the red carpet - which I'm sure many would would envy. She waves at the crowd and smiles. Interaction is so nice to see on the red carpet because it shows how down to earth the celeb is.
Not only is she absolutely gorgeous on the red carpet, with dress that make me green with envy, she also knows how to enjoy it too. Why wouldn't she be the queen, she looks pretty royal to me!

SophieSeamstress Fashion Awards 2014: Rule-breaker of the Year

Rule -breaker of the Year is awarded to...

Rihanna

I think it's fair to agree that Riri's got some seriously dangerous style. She always gives it 100% and delights in the thrill of making people physically gasp when looking at her outfits. I know I do, especially this year. She started off the year with a new look, lush long locks with bright red lips. She had taken a classic, elegant persona. However, throughout the year she has proven that high fashion doesn't have to be restricted to the runway, shocking the world with her outrageous outfits. Of course she gets away with it though, she's Rihanna. In all seriousness, she really knows how to rock any red carpet and even though she hasn't brought any music out for 2014, she has still be ever present in the fashion society. She isn't just a singer anymore; she's an icon. And she knows how to work the red carpet and her body! For example, look at the photo on the right, she went topless to the CFDAs and caused a media frenzy. Any other celebrity would have been scrutinised. But Riri? Loved.
She has made sure to always ear colours and fabrics that are over eccentric so she can make it work on the carpet. How she does it? I guess we'll never know...

SophieSeamstress Fashion Awards 2014: Best Couple

Best Couple is awarded to...

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

I don't think anyone could disagree when I say that Blake and Ryan are the best dressed couple for 2014. Not only are they the most fashionable, they have really had an amazing year as a couple too. From receiving the news that they were expecting to actually getting married, they year has just gone from strength to strength. And it shows. Their confidence together on the red carpet, in front of the cameras is so sweet. They just work! Not only a gorgeous looking couple but a matching couple too. Everything she has worn this year has been matched with classic elegance. I love how she stays true to her sexy character and usual dress even when she's pregnant. Whether it be a low cut, complementing dress or a gown with a train, she has stayed true to her usual style, which I think is really important. And in terms of Mr Reynolds, well, is there anything he can do wrong?

SophieSeamstress Fashion Awards 2014: Best Dressed Female (One-Off)

Best Dressed (One-Off) is awarded to...

5. Kendall Jenner in bespoke Topshop for the Met Gala

Ugh. She looks so amazing. Kendall looks so perfect in this dress, it's inhuman. As a model, she is meant to show the garment off to its best potential and this gorgeous bespoke Topshop gown suits her to a T. I love the colour, firstly. It shows off her flawless olive skin. It also draws attention to her ace which looks so natural, wearing minimal make up.
You can't deny, saying this, that the dress does a lot of the work. I love the fabric. Its so luxurious but not to ball gown-like. The duchess-satin appearance makes her look classically elegant without ageing her too much.
The detail around the bust is really interesting also, it draws attention to her tiny waist by making her bust look larger than it is. The structural detail on the bodice gives an optical illusion to make her hips look more pronounced without detracting from her tiny figure. I also love the necklace too. For this particular event, Jenner was dressed to perfection. If you don't remember a recent post I wrote about the Charles James exhibition, go back and have a look at some of his work. Styling in James technique was the theme for the event and Jenner was classically elegant and personally, met the dress code with the most precision. She looked and is gorgeous. What an amazing year for Kendall!
